I think that this story helps us to understand one of the modern sterotypical associations we have of women. The idea that all women, regardless of what occupation they may or may not hold, are expected to be the "house-maids" as well is I believe a common view of society. Obviously this idea is held more strongly by men, however I do not think it is a good message to be sending as although it may be intended in a joking manner, over time, those "jokes" become the basis for many people's perspective on reality. This may lead to the degredation of the female image as well as the inevitable disrespect that would be shown towards women that is unjustified.
I do not believe that this pair of pants should stir up any trouble in the society. If this were thirty years ago and women were still fighting for their rights then maybe. I feel as though we live in an society that is dominated by women. For example, most women make the final decisions when dealing with the children, they choose the decor of their homes, they handle most important things like setting up bill payments, doctor appointments, etc. Women have become very active in relationships and voicing their opinions. There is no reason for her to get angry, because in most cases if she doesnt agree with it, she will speak up! And if anything i feel like women wear the "trousersz" in relationships, so why couldnt she wash them also?
Taylor, this is a really interesting story. I think it is troubling and shows a terrible disrespect for women. I don't think I am being too sensitive!
